Diamantina Institute partners with IOI Informatics for cancer research data integration
January 2009
SHARING OPTIONS:

BERKELEY, Calif.—The Diamantina Institute for Cancer, Immunology and Metabolic Medicine will use IO Informatics' Sentient Life Science software suite for its cancer research projects, the parties announced in December. According to the institute, Sentient will help it identify genes against which new drugs can be developed and help doctors spot high-risk individuals at an early stage.

"We needed to pull data and information from a cornucopia of sources such as genomics, proteomics, high-throughput analytical instruments and Internet-accessible databases," says Tom Gonda, Diamantina's deputy director and cancer biology research leader. "Sentient, with its state-of-the-art capabilities, answers that need. Due to its incorporation of semantic Web technology, we can move beyond traditional capture and access of data to actually harvesting and applying knowledge to benefit our research." DDN
