NEW YORKóThe Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) awarded about $2.7 million in grants to four industry research teams for preclinical research on potential new treatments for Parkinson's disease. The foundation awarded funds to KineMed Inc., Omeros Corp., Acadia Pharmaceuticals Inc. and ShanaRX. The funding was awarded under MJFF's Therapeutics Development Initiative, a program launched in 2006 that is part of the foundation's focus on "de-risking" preclinical Parkinson's disease research for biotech and pharmaceutical companies and an effort to expand industry investments in Parkinson's drug development.
