Life Technologies, Gen-Probe form new collaboration
July 2011
SHARING OPTIONS:

CARLSBAD, Calif.Life Technologies Corp. and San Diego-based Gen-Probe Inc. recently announced that the two companies have signed a collaborative agreement by which Life Technologies will aid Gen-Probe in securing U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory clearance for transplant diagnostic and other assays. Gen-Probe will be responsible for commercializing future sequencing-based diagnostic assays as well as fragment analysis-based human diagnostic genetic tests, which will be used on Life Technologies' 3500 Dx Series Genetic Analyzers. The analyzers are capillary electrophoresis sequencing instruments and work to analyze DNA or RNA in order to detect genetic changes associated with the presence of disease or susceptibility. Under the terms of the agreement, Gen-Probe receives rights to several of Life Technologies' technologies, and both companies will collaborate on FDA 510(k) submissions for any assays that result from the collaboration.
