NHGRI offers funding for genome analysis technology

BETHESDA, Md.—The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is planning to make up to $5.75 million in new funding opportunities available in order to support the development and use of novel analytical methods as well as efficient high-throughput technologies for the comprehensive characterization of the organization and function of genomes. The offering follows the ENCyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) project studying the human genome and the model organism ENCyclopedia of DNA Elements (modENCODE) project, a parallel venture looking at the genomes of the fruit fly and roundworm. The NHGRI will offer 10 to 14 awards that total up to $5 million and will be supported through research projects, in addition to small business innovation research grants that will total approximately $750,000 and be awarded to one to three projects.
