March 2012
SHARING OPTIONS:
NEW YORK—In a budget plan for fiscal year 2013, President
Barack Obama has requested $30.7 billion in funding for the U.S. National
Institutes of Health (NIH), the same amount the NIH received this fiscal year.
In addition, $4.5 billion was listed for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration,
up from $3.8 billion in 2012, $312 million on behalf of the Patient-Centered
Outcomes Research Institute for comparative effectiveness research and $1
billion for medical and prosthetic research at the Department of Veteran
Affairs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would face a nearly 12
percent cut, down to $5.1 billion from $5.7 billion. Administration noted the
budget would aid the NIH in the continued implementation of the National Center
for Advancing Translational Sciences, which garnered $577 million for fiscal
year 2012. Back |
