Abbott, DNDi sign NTD research agreement
March 2012

GENEVA—The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) and Abbott recently signed a four-year joint research and non-exclusive licensing agreement to research new treatments for several neglected tropical diseases. Abbott has provided DNDi with compounds to screen for activity against neglected diseases since 2009, and the new agreement grants DNDi access to selected classes of molecules and the associated data. The companies will focus on discovering and advancing novel antimicrobial agents with potential against the neglected diseases. New and existing intellectual property related to the agreement will be subject to a principle of non-exclusive licensing. Abbott will have the right of first negotiation to serve as DNDi's development and distribution partner, though DNDi can seek out other partners if Abbott defers that right. Any products that result from the agreement will be provided in endemic countries at the lowest sustainable price.
