Shimadzu announces new center at UT Arlington

COLUMBIA, Md.Shimadzu Scientific Instruments recently announced the grand opening of its Shimadzu Center for Advanced Analytical Chemistry at the University of Texas at Arlington. The new center represents the largest installation of Shimadzu analytical instrumentation in the Western hemisphere, with $6 million worth of chromatography, mass spectrometry and spectroscopy equipment. Researchers at the UT Arlington College of Science and the College of Engineering will have access to the equipment for trace qualitative and quantitative analysis, with the instrumentation to be used in research for the prevention and treatment of illnesses like cancer and malaria, as well as the development of nanofabrication materials. Kevin Schug, an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at UT Arlington, has been named the Shimadzu Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry and will oversee the new center.
