BCM receives $781,455 in DOD awards
June 2012
SHARING OPTIONS:
HOUSTON—The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has awarded
researchers from the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at Baylor College of
Medicine (BCM) two Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program awards
to fund the study of therapeutic targets based on the genomic changes that fuel
tumor formation. The awards for the partnering principal investigators total
$781,455 and were given to BCM young investigator Dr. Xiaosong Wang, assistant
professor in the Smith Breast Center, and Dr. Rachel Schiff, associate
professor in the Smith Breast Center. Along with publicly available datasets,
Wang and his team will use a novel bioinformatics tool—developed by Wang—to
analyze the reams of data produced by a human tumor genome sequence, and to
identify the operations of genetic changes.
