Novel chemiluminescent substrate
Lumigen, a Beckman Coulter Inc. Company

Lumigen HyPerBlu, from Beckman Coulter, is a novel substrate for the direct chemiluminescent detection of hydrogen peroxide. Reaction of the substrate with hydrogen peroxide rapidly generates sustained high-intensity luminescence for maximum detection sensitivity in solution assays. Coupled with oxidases, HyPerBlu allows one-step indirect detection of oxidases or their substrates.

10-minute cell viability assay
Life Technologies Inc.

PrestoBlue reagent is a simple add-and-read cell viability assay. PrestoBlue reagent is a resazurin-based solution that exploits the reducing power of living cells to quantitatively measure cell proliferation. This reagent also allows for continuous live-cell monitoring and assessment after measuring viability. Get high-quality, reliable data in as few as 10 minutes.

Vaccuum filtration module for microplate washer dispenser
BioTek Instruments Inc.

BioTek's EL406 Microplate Washer Dispenser may now be used for automated vacuum filtration processes with the new EL406 vacuum filtration module. BioTek's complete line of microplate washers can now be used for automated washing of polystyrene- and magnetic bead-based assays such as the Luminex xMAP assay platforms. All BioTek washer and washer/dispenser products are configured to meet various laboratory requirements and come equipped with easy-to-use software for unattended operation and user-defined protocols. The EL406 Microplate Washer Dispenser offers rapid 96-, 384- and 1536-well microplate washing along with three reagent dispensers to optimize microplate-based liquid handling processes, and is robotic compatible.

FOCUSCore
ChemBridge Corp.

Kinase, ion channel and nuclear receptor subsets were selected from novel compound designs using ligand-based pharmacophore queries of known actives against each target family. The selection involved the 2D/3D conformation sampling, geometry minimization (MOE), as well as three- and four-point pharmacophore fingerprint calculations on each conformer. Known inhibitors for kinase, ion channel and hormone receptors were used to verify hits.

MotorPlate human ESC-derived motor neuron progenitors
Lonza Walkersville, Inc.

Isolation and culture of primary motor neurons is challenging. To overcome this challenge, Lonza and California Stem Cell Inc. have teamed together to bring to market the first commercially available human motor neuron products. These new products, derived from human embryonic stem cells, are functional, adherent motor neuron progenitors seeded in plates and shipped to customers fresh and ready to use.

Chemiluminescent assays amenable for high-throughput screening
DiscoveRx Corp.

DiscoveRx announces the launch of 100 functional, whole-cell assays for direct, quantitative measurement of activated and internalized GPCRs localized to early endosomes. Unlike other internalization technologies, PathHunter Activated GPCR Internalization Assays are simple, non-radioactive chemiluminescent assays that are amenable to high-throughput screening, making them ideal for counterscreening and SAR evaluation of compounds identified in primary screens of human GPCR targets.

Benchtop platform combines label-free technology and traditional labeled assays
PerkinElmer Inc.

PerkinElmer has introducted of the EnSpire Multimode Plate Reader with Corning Epic label-free technology, the first and only benchtop detection platform to combine optical label-free technology and traditional labeled assays to accurately identify and characterize potential new therapeutic targets. The EnSpire Label-Free platform can identify novel molecules and characterize important cellular and biochemical mechanisms of action that otherwise might have gone undetected by conventional labeled approaches. Label-free detection is shown to be applicable to all major classes of drug targets, including GPCRs, kinases, enzymes, ion channels and protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions, enabling broader research applicability.
